My greatest interest is conducting research that fuels my body of work. For twelve years I have been studying my native Ojibwa and Lakota languages. I have also studied medicinal herbals and the sacred teachings of the Midewin medicine people, with several elders. I study lace making traditions, especially those passed to me by my Lithuanian grandmother. Mythology and symbology continue to captivate me, and I have spent many research hours exploring the worlds of native cultures in Africa, New Zealand, Australia, and South America, as well as the work of Carl Jung and Joseph Campbell. This body of work creates layered possibilities that connect me to the beauty of the craft that I feel is sometimes not appreciated or remembered.
